2011 Widebody SPEEDSTER! Yes it is
here!
What
makes a 2011 Porsche 911 Speedster a Speedster? The
vehicle has a 3.7 inch wider body than a Turbo or
Carrera 4s. It has lightweight aluminum skin doors
from the Turbo along with an
aluminum double bubble tonneu cover.
The
fenders are complements of the even more exclusive
Porsche 911 Sport Classic. Wheels are of a retro
design reminding
us of the forged Fuchs wheels from the 1970's
Porsche 911's. The Pure Blue color is exclusive
only to the Speedster, you cannot get
this color in any other Porsche vehicle.
There
are black patches just forward of the rear wheel
wells representing previous generations 930's.
Headlight lenses
are Slightly Smoked, while the taillights are
composed of LEDs, also piano black trim add
definition and detail to the front air intakes along
with the headlight
rings. However, best of all is the steeply raked
windshield (2.4 inches short than a standard).
Interior has more
fine leather even the vent slats are lined with
leather, the rear coat hooks, the door pulls and
much more. Finally is the vehicle number
out of 356 engraved within the vehicle.
There are only 100 coming to the
US out of 356 worldwide. The 100 biggest US Porsche
dealers are only receiving one each.
Yes they are all spoken
for, and very quickly. (And not a single article has
been written yet.)
*Note* Only 1 in 3
million people will get to own the 2011 Porsche
Speedster in the United States.
Some anticipate this
Speedster to do what the last great wide body Speedster
did. In 1989 the $60K sticker price within days went to
$125,000 and they have been a hot collectible ever
since.
The car comes in
only
two colors and with
only
one option. The color we
choose was the optional Carrara white (Yes, they changed
the E to an A in Carrara). The car was also ordered
with the optional Satellite Radio.
Power for the 2011 Porsche
Speedster comes from a 3.8L flat
6-cylinder engine making 408-hp power, 23-hp more than the 911 Carrera S. The
model comes standard with Porsche’s 7-speed PDK (Porsche Doppel
Kupplungsgetriebe) transmission,
Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake
(PCCB). Production will be limited to a total of 356 units. Only 100 cars will
be sold by US dealers.
Pure Blue is the standard color
the only other color that the Speedster comes in
is Carrara White.
Speedster features the
3.7-inch-wider body of the all-wheel-drive Carrera S, and then offers the
lightweight aluminium-skin doors from the Turbo. Aluminum is also used for the
convertible top's double-bubble tonneau cover, a look inspired by the
second-generation, 1988 Porsche 911 Speedster. The front and rear fenders are
from last year's equally expensive and even more limited (250 units) Porsche
911 Sport Classic.
The wheels come from the same retro-style 911, and are meant to remind us of the
forged-aluminum Fuchs wheels seen on the 911
during the 1970s and
1980s that are so beloved by Porsche fanatics.
The black patches forward of the rear wheelwells might recall the protective
spats to guard against rock chips that once were seen on 911s, but the intent
here is purely cosmetic. The lenses for the headlights are slightly smoked,
while the taillights are composed of LEDs. Shiny piano-black trim defines the
outline of the front air intakes as well as the headlight rings and much else.
And in one authentic homage to the original Speedster, the steeply raked
windshield is some 2.4 inches shorter than standard. Celebrate
the 25th anniversary of Porsche Exclusive, the in-house specialty shop that gave
us the slope-nose 911 conversions of the 1980s), the detailing really is
astounding.
