1958 Porsche 356 Speedster

You are viewing a 1958 Porsche 356A Speedster. THE CAR IS COMPLETELY DISASSEMBLED AND IS BARE METAL. The car was made in 1957 and imported in 1958. The first owner drove it to Tucson, the second stored the car in a hanger under a parachute. The current owner purchased the car in 1968 and was driven daily during college in the early 70's. It was originally silver with red interior with a red vinyl tonneau as stated by the certificate of authenticity and build sheet. The seats and dash had white piping. At about 85,000 miles the engine went out on a hot summer day. The owner then replaced it with the current engine block  a 1961 Super 90 serial number 804359 (We do not know the whereabouts of the original engine.) The super 90 was taken apart less than 10,000 miles ago. At that time we put in a Norris 356 cam with a valve setting of 12 thousandths intake and 12 thousandths exhaust. We also balanced the crank shaft, rods, flywheel, clutch assembly as well as rod and main bearings. At that time all 4 brakes were upgraded to "B" spec aluminum brakes and pads. Approximately 3 and a half years ago a complete new wiring loom was installed made by ZNN. At that time the gauges were shipped to VDO Instruments for a complete restoration. Less than 1,000 miles ago the top end was freshened up by Redline Service and at that time a set of 1700 cc Pistons, cylinders and heads were prepared by the late Harry Pellows.  A year ago last summer we also removed the transmission and sent it Dick Aubele in Southern California for a complete rebuild. We also rebuilt the front end link & kingpin, tire rod ends, it also received a brand new old stock ZF steering box. Wheel cylinders, brakes and brake lines were replaced.

Last year the customer decided to disassemble this white show/street 1958 Speedster and completely strip the car down to bare metal but has decided to buy a Ferrari. The car is now in a completely stripped down condition. All original floor pans with the exception of a small region under the battery tray (See photo). The front, rear and left side of the car are in excellent shape with no rust, dents or accident damage. The passenger side has had some work done to the top of the door. And the right front fender has had work done to it in several places and improperly installed with pop rivets. There is also some brass welding in the front headlight assembly. We have located a right front fender clip with headlight bucket that is in very nice original shape, but needs some small rust repair and is included with the car. The front hood does not appear to have been folded but there is some lead work on the top of the hood near the hinge area. This is the only area on the hood that shows lead work. The car was a European car so it had no over riders, only bumper guards.
